TSU, 115 - 15.35-16.00

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Naturhistorische Gesellschaft (NHG - Nuremberg)  ran a 3 year research project on the Colchian  Lowland between 2010 and 2012. The main aim of the project was to locate the ancient city of Phazisi, which was established by Greek colonists in the 6th century B.C. During the excavation period, different areas around the Poti Region were studied, including Grigoleti, Chibati, Ureki and Paliastomi Lake.  Another aim of the expedition was to find a fortress, which was damaged during the construction of Poti airport.  Studies of sediments and the underwater archaeological site at  Paliastomi Lake also provided data for the future understanding of the local environmental changes.
